VELUM / Three original reading fragments I. The window At four o'clock, the light moved from the table to the wall. Mara left her cup where it was. For once, there was nothing she needed to carry into the next room. The book lay open, keeping her place without asking her to return. II. The letter He had kept the envelope because of the way she wrote his name: a little taller than the other words, as though it were a door she expected him to walk through. The letter inside was ordinary. The envelope was not. III. The garden By the time the rain stopped, the path had become a narrow mirror. Every leaf held a smaller version of the sky. She stepped around the puddles at first. Then she began to look into them. Original prose written for VELUM, 2026. No third-party passages reproduced.
